چکیده

A laboratory, fluidized-bed gasifier is being researched as a means to gasify feedstocks in a process to produce ethanol from biomass. Fluidization characteristics of the bed, especially minimum (Umf) and complete (Ucf) fluidization velocities, were measured because they are critical to the operation of the gasifier. Fluidization properties of sand and chopped switchgrasssand mixtures of different particle sizes and bulk densities were studied in this work. Experiments were performed in a 250-mm ID, fluidized-bed, clear plastic column that was dimensionally identical to the laboratory gasifier. The percentages of chopped switchgrass in the mixtures studied were 1.0, 2.0, 2.9, 4.8, 6.5 and 8.3% by weight. Sand particle sizes studied had geometric mean diameters (GMD) of 375, 381, 450, 621and 863 μm. The Umf and Ucf values were more sensitive to the sand particle size than to the percent switchgrass level in the switchgrass-sand mixtures. The Ucf/Umf ratio decreased with an increase in the percent weight of switchgrass. The descriptions of the behavior of the fluidized bed are also included in this study.

Fluidization Behaviour of Binary Mixtures Using Sand and Biomass

The present work is focused on the study of fluidization behaviour of biomass and sand mixtures in a laboratory scale test set up. The biomass materials used during the experimentation were rice husk, bagasse and sawdust. Two different particle sizes of silica sands were used in forming the mixture. The percentages of biomass in the mixtures were 2%, 5%, 10% and 15% by weight. The minimum fluid...

Impact of Fiber Reinforcement on Deformation Characteristics of Cemented Sand-Gravel Mixtures

This paper describes triaxial compression tests conducted to determine the effect of fiber inclusion on stiffness and deformation characteristics of sand-gravel mixtures. Tested soil was a mixture of Babolsar sand from the shores of the Caspian Sea and Karaj River gravel. Portland cement was used as the cementing agent and fibers 12mm in length and 0.023mm in diameter at 0%, 0.5% and 1.0% were ...

Experimental study of applying colloidal nano Silica in improving sand-silt mixtures

Passive method is a new procedure in stabilizing loose soils. This methodology is a type of interlocking soil particles structures. In order to optimum improve in this method, it is necessary to achieve proper penetration length and increase the shear strength of parameters. Researches have shown an increased resistance to liquefaction and decreased permeability due to colloidal Nano silica inj...

An Investigation on the Effects of Aggregates Properties on the Performance of Unbound Aggregate Base Layer

Unbound aggregates are the most common type of materials used for construction of the base layer of flexible pavements in Iran and worldwide. Due to the lack of binder, the performance of the compacted unbound aggregates is highly dependent on the properties of the gravel (particles remaining on sieve 4.75mm, sand (particles passing sieve 4.75mm and remaining on sieve 0....
